SPECIAL USE OF SCHOOL BUSES The appropriate administrator, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, shall develop specific regulations dealing with the special use of school buses for field trips and excursions.
Regulations as developed shall be in accord with the rules and regulations of the State Department of Public Instruction and applicable state and federal law.

REGULATIONS - SPECIAL USE OF SCHOOL BUSES
A. Requests for bus transportation shall be approved by the building principal.
B. Chaperones or sponsors must accompany school children on the bus and provide
supervision as needed.C. The trip must not interfere with regular bus routes.
D. The transportation request form should be completed in duplicate and submitted
to the Transportation Office 14 days prior to date of desired transportation.E. Central office directed student activities requiring bus transportation will be without
charge.F. Bus transportation will be furnished for music groups or athletic teams participating in District or
State contests without charge provided the trip is directly to and from the event.G. Bus transportation will be furnished for school-sponsored groups for civic purposes
without charge, within Vigo County. The definition of "civic purposes" excludes
activities which are inherently designed to promote financial activities for profit in
private businesses or fund raising for the school.H. Transportation costs to the schools will be determined each year by the Director of Transportation, approved by the Board of School Trustees and broken down as follows:
1. Fuel Expense
a. WITHIN VIGO COUNTY - The school corporation will
furnish fuel for all principal approved field trips.
b. OUTSIDE VIGO COUNTY – a per mile fee will be determined each year in proportion to current fuel and maintenance costs.2. Driver Expense
