Providing safe and efficient pupil transportation services for 12,542 children to and from school is the major priority of the transportation department. All buses and auxillary vehicles are owned and operated by the Vigo County School Corporation. The transportation fleet consists of 160 buses (seventy two and seventy eight passenger) and 36 ADA buses. In addition to daily round trips, the buses are used for a variety of activities: class field trips, athletic trips, music performance groups, and special trips such as visits to the Allen Memorial Planetarium, Swope Art Gallery, and Wabash Valley Historical Museum and the new Science Museum. Transportation for the special needs students is also provided in support of the Community Based Instruction Program, the School-To-Work Program, and transportation on weekends to and from the Indiana Schools for the Deaf and Blind. Transportation is also provided for the Health Careers, Building Trade Vocational Programs and ROTC.
